The Wrekin Vineyard Needle Eye Pinot Noir 2020
Another reason why you shouldn't overlook Marlborough Pinot Noir. In fact, we think some this country's best Pinots are being made in the region's southern valleys, just like this one. Dark and concentrated, this has supple, dense fruit that coats its underlying powerful structure. While some of us might want to forget the Autumn of 2020 (lockdowns), wines like this are a memorable silver lining from that strange time on earth.
Dedicated to growing high quality, organic Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc, Jan and Andrew Johns started planting vines at the top of the Brancott Valley, Marlborough in 2002. Now with 17 hectares planted, The Wrekin is a family affair, with daughter Anna and her partner Andy returning from overseas to work at the estate. The fruit goes into the hands of some of the region's most exciting producers, like Ashleigh Barrowman and Deep Down. But the small quantities of wine produced under the family’s own Wrekin label are made by Hätsch Kalberer (formerly of Fromm) and Margaux Demalle.
