Hearty and satisfying, this is the best of both worlds - the polished and richly fruited expression of modern Rioja, with the savoury, leather, smoke and hot earth complexities of the old school Rioja. There’s immediacy in its richness, but it's certainly built to last. It was produced from the region's classic blending partners, Tempranillo with Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo, from vines of at least 30 years planted on calcareous-clay soils. Once hand harvested and fermented in large oak vats, the wine was aged in new French oak barrels for 26 months, followed by 18 months in bottle before release. 

Now in its third generation, and founded by Isaac Muga and Aurora Caño in 1932, Bodegas Muga is undoubtedly one of Spain’s great family estates. Based in one of the wine capitals of the world, the town of Haro in Rioja, they balance traditional winemaking techniques with modern environmental initiatives. They have their own cooperage and inhouse master coopers, practice organic farming with certification in progress, and carefully manage the water usage and energy efficiency of their production.
