This is a clever and delicious ode to the grape that put New Zealand's wine industry on the map. It was made with a Nelson Sauvignon Blanc base wine, fortified with distilled Sauvignon, and sweetened with Sauvignon juice. And the botanicals enhance the variety’s character - fresh Nelson Sauvin hops, passionfruit, elderflower and citrus - all anchored to tradition with mugwort and wormwood. It’s a semi-sweet blanco style that drinks beautifully on ice, or as a playful addition to cocktails.
After a career in brewing and distilling, Erin Madsen produced her first batch of Mr Mug Vermouth in 2023, using botanicals foraged in the mighty Waikato. Well attuned to the renaissance the drink is having globally, she is one of New Zealand’s first producers dedicated to producing just Vermouth, with a truly kiwi identity.
