Marcel Lapierre Morgon 2024

Marcel Lapierre Morgon 2024

$74.00

This is a benchmark expression of Gamay from the granitic slopes of Morgon in Beaujolais. It reflects the freshness and purity of the 2024 vintage, with vibrant aromas of wild raspberry, black cherry, violets and spice. Fermented with whole bunches using indigenous yeasts and minimal sulphur, then matured in old oak foudres and barrels, the wine balances juicy fruit with savoury depth, silky tannins and the mineral energy that has made Lapierre one of the most sought-after names in Beaujolais.

Based in the village of Villié-Morgon, Marcel was one of the famed "Gang of Four" alongside Jean Foillard, Guy Breton and Jean-Paul Thévenet, a group of growers inspired by pioneering négociant and chemist Jules Chauvet to return to traditional, low-intervention farming and winemaking. Since Marcel's passing in 2010, the estate has been led by his children Mathieu and Camille Lapierre, who continue to champion organic viticulture and natural winemaking. Their influence has been profound, helping transform the reputation of Beaujolais from a region associated with simple nouveau wines into one celebrated for terroir-driven, age-worthy expressions of Gamay.
