We love wines that express both light and dark shades. This is one of those. The light, in fragrant red fruits. The dark, in smoke, earth and spice. The palate is fine and taut. A lot of Kiwi Pinots offer immediacy, this offers you something to contemplate while it unfolds slowly in the glass. Organic, Moutere fruit from Rob and Kate Burley’s home vineyard was hand harvested, wild yeast fermented and aged in old french barriques.
From their 5 hectare, organic vineyard in Nelson, Rob and Kate Burley produce balanced, bright wines in a range of styles. Rob draws on his depth of experience having worked for the likes of Patrick Sullivan and Bill Downie in Australia, and at the renowned wine bar Terroir in London. While his Unkel releases are supple, fun and approachable, his Luta wines display a seriousness and depth that place them among New Zealand's best.
