This is an excellent expression of North Canterbury Pinot Noir. There's lifted fruit aromatics for sure, but its the autumnal and earthy complexities that stand out for us. It's medium bodied as far as Pinot goes, with well defined, firm structure. It punches well above it's weight. It's produced from 3 vineyards, 2 of which are planted on limestone, the other on clay.
Dom Maxwell started Forager in 2012, as a side project to his very successful role as winemaker at Greystone. Now his full time gig, Forager is an excellent exploration of unique vineyard sites and soils of North Canterbury, with a particular focus on limestone-grown Pinot Noir, and now Chardonnay.
