Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Rouge 2022
Pure, unadulterated Cabernet Franc, this is as vibrant as it is composed. Raspberry, violets, wet earth, and woody aromatics lead the way. We love the way the palate is a contrast of tangy crushed berries with tension, minerality and fine structure. Fruit was sourced from 3 old vine parcels, hand harvested, destemmed, wild yeast fermented. The wine was aged in large format french oak for 12 months.
Since taking over his family's Loire Valley vineyards in 1996, Romain Guiberteau’s wines have quickly become some of the most sought after wines in the region. With vines up to 80 years old, the 9 hectares of vineyards at Domaine Guiberteau are planted on and around the calcareous site of Brézé. The site is considered something of a de facto Grand Cru in Saumur, and Romain has certainly elevated it’s estimation. He gave up studying law to take over the estate, under the mentorship of Nady Foucault of famed Saumur producer Clos Rougeard. In 2000 the journey to organic management began, and certification was achieved in 2007. The wines show such purity, vibrancy and poise. The Chenin Blancs are made in dry styles, with both dense fruit concentration and mineral drive. The Cabernet Francs are bright, fragrant with both beautiful fine structure and power.
