Grosset Polish Hill Riesling 2022
Precise, linear, persistent and dry, this is the definitive example of one of Australia’s great white wines - Clare Valley Riesling. For all its citrusy tension and length, we’ve noticed this wine has become more textural over the years, with a wonderful supple chalkiness. Polish Hill is an 8 hectare vineyard in the coolest part of the Clare Valley at an altitude of 460 metres. Soils of silt and shallow shales sit over a thin crust of clay and gravel, on top of a bed of blue slate. Hand harvested, organic fruit is crushed and destemmed, and the free run juice is gently pressed off for fermentation.
Having studied at Roseworthy and after attaining senior winemaking positions in South Australia, Jeffery Grosset established his own winery in 1981. He’s known for highlighting special single sites like Polish Hill, Springvale and Piccadilly, and for his technical accuracy. The wines are all certified organic and biodynamic.
