Giuseppe Vajra describes this bright, approachable red as “a hug from Piedmont. It’s an invitation to explore its different varieties and to get to know its personality”. The northern Italian region of Piedmont is revered the world over, it’s the Burgundy of Italy. So to find such outstanding value in this early drinking blend of Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto is a bloody treat. It’s fragrant, light to medium bodied, with gently savoury tannin.
Aldo and Milena Vajra founded their estate in the early 1970’s, naming it G.D. after Aldo’s father, Giuseppe Domenico. Based in the western part of Barolo, where soils are lighter, they’re renowned for their fragrant, elegant styles of Barolo. Now in the hands of the kids, Giuseppe, Isidoro and Francesca, their commitment to excellence as a family is outstanding, as are the wines. They achieved full organic certification in 2019.
