This is Chardonnay with lovely richness and a sense of ease, but in a bright, fruitful way, with tropical and ripe stone fruit flavours. The palate is silky and supple, with a nice freshness on the finish. Fruit was grown in the Caruso family’s vineyards on the limestone hills around Marsala, in Sicily’s west.
The partnership of Caruso & Minini brings together the four generations of the Caruso family’s viticultural history with the commercial experience of the Minini family based in northern Italy. The Carusos had been growing and selling grapes in the west of Sicily since the mid-20th century. In 1990s the family’s third generation began taking control of the entire process from vineyard to bottle. Their partnership with Mario and Francesco Minini led to the creation of Caruso & Minini and a winery in a historic 1904 baglio in Marsala. Today they farm around 120 hectares across the hills of Salemi, producing both Sicily’s indigenous varieties and international varieties like Chardonnay.
