This is an excellent, sophisticated introduction to Austria’s most important grape variety, Grüner Veltliner. Generally made in a dry style, Grüner can vary in style from light and fresh through to rich and textural. This example is at the lighter end, showing pure aromatics of green apple, white pepper and just-ripe white stone fruit. It’s zesty and dry to taste. Fruit is organically grown on gravelly, schist granite terraces in the region of Kamptal, to the north west of Vienna. 

Willi Brundlmayer’s estate has been among the best in Austria for decades now. Based in Kamptal, 70 kilometres north west of Vienna, these stony vineyard terraces are warmed by the continental Pannonian influence to the south, and cooled by the wooded Waldviertal region to the north. The estate’s mineral and complex expressions of Gruner Veltliner and Riesling are not to be missed.
