A wine we've been asked about many times since the first release in 2023. We'd go as far to say its gathered a small cult following. Unique in many ways, it's made from Petit Manseng, a grape variety that hails from the south west of France. Lauren and Simon's 2025 iteration of this grape, sourced from Churton's Waihopai Valley vineyards, expresses the alluring nature of this grape beautifully, in a dry style. Best said in their words, "it was picked with 60 -70% botrytis, yielding an exotic and intensely complex wine with Sauternes-esque aromas of candied orange, marmalade and caramel, balanced by powerful acidity and vibrant varietal notes of pineapple, mango and jasmine"

After spending a decade making wine in Cahors in the south west of France, Lauren and Simon Sharpe have returned to New Zealand to produce wine under their own label A Thousand Gods. Made from hand-picked fruit grown at Churton’s biodynamic Marlborough vineyards, the wines are fermented with wild yeast, with no additions, fining or filtering. All their winemaking experience and talent is evident, these wines are poised and delicious.
