Ardnahoe Bholsa Single Malt is a bold, youthful Islay whisky that leans into peat smoke without losing its sense of balance. Predominantly matured in Oloroso sherry casks, it brings a layer of dried fruit, spice and gentle richness over its smoky core. Named after the Bholsa caves on the island of Islay, it’s bottled at 50% ABV, bringing real intensity and energy to the glass. There’s a briny, maritime edge running through it, with just enough sweetness and spice underneath to keep things rounded rather than harsh. It’s smoky, expressive and very much in that modern Islay style that feels immediate and full of character.
Islay is the home of smoky giants like Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg. In 2018, a new distillery fired up its stills and began making some pretty impressive whisky. That distillery is Ardnahoe. It is the brainchild of the Laing family, the people behind Hunter Laing, independent bottlers with whisky street cred going back decades. In 2015, they bought a large chunk of land and secured water from Loch Ardnahoe. From the outset, it has positioned itself firmly in classic Islay territory, producing peated single malt using copper pot stills, long fermentations and worm tub condensers. Its early releases already sit comfortably within the island’s smoky spectrum, balancing coastal influence with a structured, confident style of production.
