Ilegal’s story is as exciting and illicit as the name suggests. Founder John Rexer started bootlegging unbranded mezcal from Oaxaca to Antigua to supply his bar, Café No Sé. The means of smuggling became more and more elaborate to meet growing demand, until 2006 when the Illegal label was officially created. It’s now one of the most trusted artisanal Mezcals, with no artificial colors, yeasts, flavours, or additives. They are all bottled, corked and labelled by hand.
