G.D. Vajra Bricco delle Viole Barolo 2017
Bricco delle Viole is known for producing Barolo of finesse. This site, the hill of violets, is the highest vineyard in Barolo and the closest to the Alps. Florals, red fruits, rhubarb, truffle and incense, the aromatics are as enticing as the palate is poised and layered. It has very fine tannin and a mineral drive. Organically grown fruit was hand harvested, and fermented on skins for 58 days before aging in large Slavonian oak for 25 months.
Aldo and Milena Vajra founded their estate in the early 1970’s, naming it G.D. after Aldo’s father, Giuseppe Domenico. Based in the western part of Barolo, where soils are lighter, they’re renowned for their fragrant, balanced and elegant styles of Barolo. Now in the hands of the kids, Giuseppe, Isidoro and Francesca, their commitment to excellence is outstanding, as are the wines. They achieved full organic certification in 2019.
