Alkina Kin Shiraz 2023
With a beautiful core of dark fruit and spice, lifted violet aromatics open up in the glass. True to the Barossa Valley, this is a fruit forward and generous Shiraz, but it maintains an elegant posture. The fruit comes from Alkina's younger vines grown on schist, limestone and clay.
Alkina is a 60 hectare single estate in the subregion of Greenock in Barossa Valley. As well as the estate's existing bush vines planted in the 1950s, Argentinian owner Alejandro Bulgheroni has expanded planting to 43 hectares, which are now all fully certified organic and biodynamic. Bulgheroni wasn’t messing about when he planned this, hiring world leading oenological consultant Alberto Antonini and soil scientist and terroir expert Pedro Parra to map out the vineyard. The focus is very much on creating expressions of the specific soils on the estate.
