Truly mediterranean, this iconic Bandol red has a layered complexity of flavours - dark berried fruit, spice, tobacco, wild herbs and florals. Its lush and dense fruit flavours are beautifully contrasted in the palate by firm, long and grainy tannins. The late-ripening star of this blend is Mourvèdre, a grape variety that with all it's power and structure, deserves a little more limelight - especially when in the hands of Domaine Tempier.
Domaine Tempier has been farming in Bandol, right on France's Mediterranean coastline, since 1834. It's modern reputation really began in 1936 with Lucie “Lulu” Tempier’s marriage to Lucien Peyraud. Together, they have championed the grape variety Mourvèdre, and played a key role in establishing the Bandol AOC, defining the region’s identity and quality standards. Today, under the stewardship of the Peyraud family and long-time collaborators, Tempier continues to farm organically, work with old vines across multiple terroirs, and champion traditional, low-intervention winemaking that puts place firmly front and centre.
