James from Bryterlater talks about this Pet-Nat as “chasing the Champagne dragon”. And he’s giving a good chase. Made from Pinot Noir, this wine is pure fruited, mouth filling and precise. Fruit from the Barber vineyard is handpicked and gently pressed. The wine is barrel fermented, riddled and disgorged.
Nick Drake recorded an ethereal studio album in 1970 called Bryterlater. Ethereal too are James Opie’s Bryterlater releases from North Canterbury. Sourcing organic fruit from vineyards around the region, James produces wines that respect the varied nature of each growing season, and that are produced, as James says, “with patience in the vineyard and patience in the winery.”
