Enticingly fragrant, pure fruited Syrah with a mineral cut, this comes from the steep granite slopes in the north of St Joseph. It’s sleek and detailed, with perfumed red and blue berried fruits, and a whiff of wild herbs. Fruit was destemmed, fermented and aged for 18 months in French oak before bottling without filtration.
Pierre Gaillard’s viticultural talent was recognised early by Etienne Guigal in the 1970s when Pierre worked for Guigal. Purchasing his own vineyard, Clos de Cumiaille in 1981, Pierre has risen to become one of the most celebrated producers in the northern Rhone. With fruit now coming from 70 hectares across the area, he and his children continue to produce the flavoursome, expressive wines he’s well known for.
