Generously flavoured with sunny stone and tropical fruit aromatics, this has a juicy, supple and dry palate. We find expressions Gavi (and the Cortese grape) can often be quite steely and lean, but we really enjoyed the ripe, forward ease of this one. It makes for a perfect afternoon drink in the sun. 

Based in Rovereto, Picollo Ernesto is a 16 hectare, organically farmed estate perched on south facing, rolling hills in the south of the Gavi DOCG in Piedmonte. Cortese is the one and only grape grape variety here, and thrives in the heat and poor soils. Being based further south, summer heat in the vineyards is mitigated by coastal breezes. This estate is a family affair, established in 1945 by Lorenzo Picollo, and then passed on to his son Ernesto, with grandson Gianlorenzo now involved.
