The richness and texture of this wine is really something, but just before you think it’s going to be OTT, it tightens up with lengthy, chalky acidity. It’s the flagship white from this clever producer, made with fruit grown in 4 different plots of vines aged between 55 and 60 years old. The grape Xarel.lo is better known in the Penedes region for the production of Cava, the most prominent sparkling wine style of Spain. Here we see its true potential as a still white wine.
In restoring their respective family’s vineyards, Ramon Jané and Toni Carbó established Mas Candi in 2006. Based in Penedes in Catalonia, they honour the region's history of making Spain’s best sparkling wines, as well as producing a range of very smart whites and reds. With biodynamic farming, they’re dedicated to the native grape varieties in this historic region.
