Jules Desjourneys En Chailloux Mâcon-Prissé 2019
This is a producer worth taking note of, making wines that vividly express why Chardonnay is adored the world over. Macon-Prissé is the most southern part of Burgundy where Chardonnay reigns. En Chailloux is a vineyard on a gently sloping alluvial terrace close to the river Petite Grosne. By virtue of being further south (Macon borders Beaujolais) the expressions of Macon Chardonnay are a little riper than the rest of Burgundy, with stone fruit and citrus peel flavours. There’s wonderful concentration and fresh, chalky structure here. Shit-hot Chardonnay.
Jules Desjourneys is the made up name for the wine Fabian Duperray produces in Macon and Beaujolais. Behind the scenes Duperray is a big deal, as the agent for allocations of Burgundy’s best (Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Coche-Dury etc). His own vineyards are organic certified, biodynamically managed, and the wines measure up to those of Guffen-Heynen (widely considered the best producer in the Maconnais).
Organic, biodynamic, minimal added sulphites
