Ata Rangi Pinot Noir 2021
Having been lucky enough to taste Ata Rangi a fair bit over the years, our main observation is that the wines beautifully express each different growing season, at the same time as being consistent expressions of Martinborough terroir. This is at the heart of what wine is about, time and place. Time is expressed in the lifted, dark fruit and spices of a warm summer. The place is expressed in signature savoury tannin. Beautifully grown and crafted Pinot Noir.
Pioneers of Aotearoa-grown Pinot Noir and of the Martinborough wine region, Ata Rangi remain one of our best. The estate was established and is owned by Clive Paton, Phyll Pattie and Alison Paton, with winemaking in the hands of the brilliant Helen Masters. Basically, the wines are shit-hot. The Pinots in particular. They’re wines of detail, complexity and intrigue and they age beautifully. The Home vineyard is certified organic, with more on the way.
