Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay 2021
Margaret River produces consistently outstanding Chardonnay, and we’d go as far to say that this is one of Australia’s best. With complex aromatics of beeswax, soft cheese and a hint of coastal air, it’s beautifully polished with a core of fresh acidity that will ensure its potential for ageing. We love the Vasse Felix team’s description of this as being satisfyingly ‘al dente’. Made with organically grown fruit from selected parcels of Gingin clone Chardonnay, it’s wild fermented and aged in French oak barriques, 56% of which are new. It goes through full malolactic fermentation.
Established by regional pioneer Tom Cullity in 1967, Vasse Felix are a benchmark producer of Margaret River’s best performing varieties, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Their commitment to excellence is ongoing, at the moment converting over 300 hectares of vineyards to certified organic production. With Virginia Willcock as Chief Winemaker since 2006, the wines are consistently outstanding.
