Three Fates Cabernet Franc 2021


A refreshing change from the big, extracted Hawkes Bay reds you may know, this is Kiwi Cab Franc on a charm offensive. Holly from Three Fates explains: 

‘This is a Franc for lovers of Pinot Noir or Beaujolais Cru; looking to the Loire for inspiration. In the winery, the bunches were destemmed and half was foot-stomped to get the juices flowing. With wild yeasts dealing to fermentation, a very gentle extraction was encouraged by hand-plunging. After fermentation the wine spent 5 months in barrel to integrate the tannins; there was no fining or filtration. This wine can be served from the fridge or room temperature and is perfect with charcuterie or simply glugging on it's own. An incredibly juicy number; the sour-cherries, raspberry, and spice are throwing themselves out the glass at you!’

The three fates are Holly Girven Russell, Hester Nesbitt and Casey Motley. In another case of old mate COVID causing a change of tack, these three decided to combine their respective wine growing experience, taking on the lease of a Maraekākaho, Hawkes Bay vineyard in 2020.
