Toru is Aotearoa’s original field blend, made from Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris. “It’s like a jigsaw puzzle with the best of those 3 components and none of the more polarising elements. It’s the right amount of everything, and everything in all the right places”. Co-fermentation is key. “It’s like alchemy - blending never achieves the same level of integration”.
Te Whare Ra is itself a winning trio. It’s the combination of talented, committed people, an established vineyard in a remarkable place, and the application of organic and biodynamic practices.
Anna and Jason Flowerday have led the organic and biodynamic charge in Marlborough. They grow 7 varieties on a tiny 11 hectares near Renwick. Fruit is handpicked, hand sorted and the resulting wines are a deft expression of place. Their integrity, skill and passion is palpable in the glass.
