Pieropan Amarone della Valpolicella 2018

$110.00

A fascinating specialty in the Veneto region, Amarone a red wine made by drying out the harvested grapes before fermentation. By virtue of this, and as is beautifully on show here, the flavours are all dried cherry and fig, with hints of cocoa and spice. The concentration of these aromatics continues in the palate, and this has firm structure and a lengthy, dry finish. It’s made from the varieties Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara, organically grown in Valpolicella, to the north of Verona.

The Pieropan family have been a benchmark producer of the white wine Soave since the late 1800s. They established their red wine project in Valpolicella in 1999, purchasing land on the hill of Garzon and planting in 2000. From here they produce Amarone that has both richness and finesse.
