Paul Jaboulet Aîné Côte Rôtie Les Jumelles 2015
This is a blend of two of the great northern Rhone vineyards, Côte Blonde and Côte Brune, apparently named after some historical aristocrat’s fair-haired and brunette daughters. Regardless of what you make of that, this is serious Syrah. Abundant in fruit, texture and power. The development of black olive, incense and dried herb complexities are a treat. This displays both the elegant, silky fruit profile, and density that Côte Rotie is known for, and Syrah is capable of.
Paul Jaboulet is one of the Rhône Valley’s most celebrated and historic producers. Billionaire Jean-Jacques Frey bought the estate in 2006 and his talented daughter Caroline Frey has been in charge since, converting production to biodynamics. To continue the legacy of excellence that the Jaboulet name is known for, it's handy to have a billionaire at the helm. The Frey family also own Château La Lagune in Bordeaux and half of Champagne house Billecart-Salmon.
