Domaine Hubert Lignier Morey-Saint-Denis 2019
If you’re going to splurge on Burgundy, you might as well reach for the region's great producers. That certainly includes Hubert Lignier who’s based in Morey-Saint-Denis, in the Cote du Nuits where Pinot Noir performs best. Said to be the tenor in Burgundy’s choir, wines of Morey-Saint-Denis walk the line between finesse and power, and this is no exception. It’s produced from vines planted in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s. Fruit is given 5 days of pre fermentation maceration, fermented with natural yeasts, and aged in barrel with restrained use of new oak. It delivers village Burgundy with concentration, depth and structure.
Hubert and his son Laurence manage village, premier cru and grand cru vineyards without herbicide or pesticide sprays. Tilled soils and organic composts further protect their hallowed grounds. In Laurence’s words they’re “aspiring to make authentic and sensual wines that express their own terroir”
