Domaine des Marnes Blanches Chardonnay En Quatre Vis 2020
It's Chardonnay like this that makes us say, respectfully, forget white Burgundy. Your hard earned dollars are much better spent here. There’s such an incredible depth of flavour - spearmint, rosemary, butter, apple and a saline note. It’s dense and textural with an amazing line of chalky acidity. From a west facing site of 50 year old vines and harder limestone soils than Les Molates, this was aged in 500 litre barrels for 2 years. The outcome is exquisite.
Tucked up between Burgundy and the Alps, Jura is one of those regions that the wine world gets very excited about, and Domaine des Marnes Blanches are at the peak of that excitement. Géraud and Pauline Fromont leapt into the consciousness of wine lovers when they started Domaine des Marnes Blanches in 2006. They have 4 vineyards totalling 12 hectares on limestone/clay and red marl soils where they grow Chardonnay, Savagnin, Poulsard, Pinot Noir and Trousseau using organic practices. As well as traditional oxidative wine styles, they have keenly followed a Burgundian approach of the separate vinification and bottling of specific sites to make ‘topped up’ wines.
