Black Estate Damsteep Riesling 2019
Yet another reason to revisit Riesling, as if a reason is needed. This interpretation is super dry, but with flesh, and flavours of beeswax, ripe red apple, and sweet spices. There’s a broadness in the palate but it maintains Riesling’s signature freshness. Dampsteep is a densely planted, certified organic vineyard in the North West of Waipara. This wine is partly foot-stomped, has a 24 hour skin soak, is fermented with natural yeasts propagated in the Damsteep vineyard, and is matured on lees for 6 months.
Black Estate is passionately owned and run by Pen Naish, Nicholas Brown and their families. They make wines from 3 organically certified, biodynamic practicing vineyards in Waipara. It’s an evolving commitment to making excellent wine with true respect for their place.
