Black Estate Damsteep Riesling 2022

$36.00

Yet another reason to revisit Riesling, as if a reason is needed. This interpretation is super dry, but with flesh, and flavours of beeswax, ripe red apple, and sweet spices. There’s a broadness in the palate but it maintains Riesling’s signature freshness. Dampsteep is a densely planted, certified organic vineyard in the North West of Waipara. This wine is partly foot-stomped, has a 24 hour skin soak, is fermented with natural yeasts propagated in the Damsteep vineyard, and is matured on lees for 6 months.

Black Estate is passionately owned and run by Pen Naish, Nicholas Brown and their families. They make wines from 3 organic and biodynamic certified vineyards in North Canterbury. It’s an evolving commitment to making excellent wine with true respect for their place. This commitment has deservedly been recognised by Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine, who named Nicholas as their New Zealand Winemaker of the year for 2022.
