Castelvecchio Vitovska 2022
Flavourful and concentrated with stone and tropical fruits and ripe citrus, this has a dense palate with a flinty, mineral, fresh finish. The variety Vitovksa is believed to have been found in Georgia, but is very much at home in the north east of Italy and neighbouring Solvenia. Organic, estate grown fruit is hand harvested, fermented and aged on lees in concrete tanks, allowing the purity of the Vitovska to shine.
Castelvecchio is a family owned estate in the wine region of Carso, that sits on a limestone plateau in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, north eastern Italy. It’s a rarity in the sense that the region extends into Slovenia (where it’s called Kras), demonstrating that a rich wine culture defies national boundaries. The land is historically significant, with the organically farmed vineyards and olive groves sitting on battlefields from both world wars. The villa itself was used as a hospital through the wars.
