Riesling comes in many guises, and this one is delightfully textural and dry. It’s generous in flavours of grapefruit, apple and tropical fruit, with leesy, beeswax notes. A brief 24 hours on skins contributes to texture and palate weight, and it’s fermented and aged on lees in large format French oak. 

Nick Drake recorded an ethereal studio album in 1970 called Bryterlater. Ethereal too are James Opie’s Bryterlater releases from North Canterbury. Sourcing organic fruit from vineyards around the region, James produces wines that respect the varied nature of each growing season, and that are produced, as James says, “with patience in the vineyard and patience in the winery.”
