Matua and Imogen beautifully describe Kurawaka, their second release - “On the nose, rain in the ngāhere, wet whenua with a berry sweetness. Fresh and woody. On the palate, textured but light on its feet in a velvety, smooth way. Bright with acid and subtle tannins on the back palate.” It’s a blend of Te-Matau-a-Māui Hawke’s Bay Sangiovese and Syrah, both organically grown on alluvial gravels. 

Tawhiti was created by Matua Murupaenga and Imogen Weir. Their Māori natural wine label seeks to incorporate as much Māoritanga as possible, with Māori people involved in every aspect of production. Supported by Amy Hopkinson-Styles of Halcyon Days, they source certified organic fruit from Te-Matau-a-Māui Hawke’s Bay vineyards.
