Mas Des Agrunelles Nicot Rouge 2021
A lively, flavoursome blend of Syrah and Grenache here. As well as bright red and dark fruits, with has a meaty, savoury tone with wild herbs to boot. It has up front juiciness to taste, with a firm, fresh finish. From their biodynamic vineyards 20 kilometres north west of Montpellier, Frédéric and Stéphanie’s hand harvested fruit is grown on limestone, loam and clay. After a long fermentation the wine is aged in concrete vats, keeping primary fruit flavour to the fore. It's bottled without fining, filtration and with minimal sulphite additions.
The characterful wines of the Languedoc in the south west of France are well worth exploring, and the wines of Mas des Agrunelles highlight this so well. Based in the communes of Argelliers and Murles, one of the cooler climates of the region, husband and wife Frédéric Porro and Stéphanie Ponson biodynamically farm 25 hectares of vines. They approach vinification with minimal intervention with no fining, filtration and minimal additions of sulphur.
Organic, biodynamic, unfined, unfiltered, minimal added sulphites
