Grava España Vino Tinto 2022
One of those varieties that's been lost and then revived to much fanfare in the wine world, this is made from Mencia, grown in Biezo in north western Spain. Al from Grava, in his annual trip to Spain to make wine, has crafted this beautifully. It's blue fruited, meaty, with spice and fennel seed complexities. It's fresh to taste, with a tightly wound palate just waiting to open up over a good meal.
Producing wines from both the gravelly Dry River flats of Martinborough, and the region of Bierzo in Spain’s north west, Alistair Gardner and Karla Falloon are the talented couple behind Grava. Possibly the world’s smallest, most humble multinational, this duo work with organic fruit to produce compelling wines that are true expressions of their respective places.
