Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2021
Eschewing a big, bold style, this is beautiful Chateauneuf-du-Pape of depth, tension and fine lines. True to the region, it's Grenache predominant, which brings its notes of sweet red berried fruit and licorice. Syrah and Mourvedre bring depth and texture. The wine was aged in cement tanks, allowing the purity of place to shine.
Domaine Charvin dates back to 1851, and for a long time sold their fruit to negociants. When 6th generation Laurent Charvin took over in 1990, he began bottling their own wines. With just 8 hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and 13 hectares of Côtes du Rhône vineyards, the focus remains on quality over quantity. Considered a traditionalist, and being based on cooler, north facing slopes, the wines have finesse, definition and fragrance.
