This is obscure, and bloody delicious. It’s fruitful, expressive and rich with a citrusy, dry finish. The sparkling wines from Emilia Romagna are usually made from Lambrusco, but this gem is made from the white variety Spergola. After a 2 day skin maceration, and the first spontaneous fermentation, the second fermentation occurred in bottle with the addition of grape must. It was aged for a further 24 months before release. 

Perched on the gentle hills of Montecchio Emilia, between Parma and Reggio Emilia, Quatricella is an estate devoted to sparkling wine. It was born in 2001 when Roberto Maestri’s family bought eight hectares here, and it very quickly evolved from his grandfather’s hobby to a serious, low-intervention wine project.
