Gruner Veltliner is an alluring, aromatic white variety that hails from Austria. Here in New Zealand we’ve captured the world with our bright, fruit forward whites, so it makes sense we turn our hand to growing it. The Rock Ferry team have done just that and the outcome is superb. Pear, citrus, spice and musk, there’s depth of flavour here, as well as silky texture and a pithy, crisp finish. Half the fruit ferments on skins, and the other half pressed for the fermentation of free run juice. The wine is aged in seasoned oak on full lees for 8 months. 

Husband and wife team Tom Hutchison and Fiona Harvey established Rock Ferry having been contract grape growers in Marlborough. They have 4 vineyards, 3 in Marlborough and 1 in Bendigo, Central Otago, all of which are certified organic. Winemaking is in the hands of Allan McWilliams and Jordan Hogg.
