Radburnd Cellars Chardonnay 2020
For us, top notch Chardonnay is about freshness as much as it’s about richness. It’s about subtle complexity of flavour as much as it’s about oak use. This wine is a fine example of that. There’s a beautiful balance of stone fruit aromatics with mealy, savoury complexity. Rich palate weight and texture is harmoniously woven with citrusy freshness. Fruit is sourced from three Hawkes Bay vineyards, two in Mangatahi and the third in the Bridge Pa Triangle. It’s hand picked over night, whole bunch pressed, and fermented and aged in season French oak barriques for 10 months.
Legendary winemaker Kate Radburnd works with her daughter Penny to make these outstanding wines. Having dedicated her career to Hawkes Bay winemaking, carefully selected parcels of fruit from across the region couldn’t be in better hands. In Kate’s words - “Radburnd Cellars is a dream come true for me – and I don’t say that lightly. It’s incredibly invigorating to create a winery with a clean slate so we’re able to completely focus on making small parcels of the absolute best wines we can - and that’s something that I have wanted to do for a very long time.”
