Mourgues du Grès Galets Dorés Blanc 2022
This vibrant white carries with it the charm of the beautiful part of the world it comes from, the south of France. It’s like biting into a perfectly ripe piece of white fleshed stone fruit. It has a whiff of white flower and wild herb complexity, with a nice little saline edge. Organically grown on the galets dorés (white stones) of cooler north facing vineyards, Grenache Blanc, Rolle (Vermentino) and Roussanne are all fermented and aged at cool temperatures, to keep it all fragrant and cool indeed.
Chateau Mourgues du Grès is based in Costières de Nîmes, in the south west of the Rhone valley in France. It’s in the same part of the world as the Pont du Gard, that ancient Roman aquifer you probably studied in high school classics. The Latin motto of this estate is ‘Sine Sole Nihil’ meaning ‘nothing without the sun’. These sundrenched, stony organic vineyards are cooled by the famed winds of the mistral, ensuring the wines are ripe but also fresh.
