Domaine Marcel Deiss Alsace Complantation 2020

$60.00

All the powerful fruit aromatics and spice, texture and freshness that best sums up the wines of Alsace, in the north east of France. Here that exuberance remains well balanced and poised, which is no mean feat considering this is a blend of 13 different varietals including Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Muscat à petits grains, Gewurztraminer, Sylvaner, Pinot Auxerrois, Pinot Beurot, Muscat Blanc, Rose d'Alsace, Traminer, Chasselas Rose.

Jean-Michel Deiss took over this deep rooted family estate in Bergheim, Alsace in 1981. Having been entrusted with the Schoenenbourg vineyard, which was planted with a blend of varieties, he made the decision to replant all his Grand Cru vineyards as a co-plantation of varieties. This was famously controversial at the time, because as you may know, Alsace is known for and labels single varietal wines. Very much marching to the beat of his own drum, he also adopted biodynamic practices in 1998, leading the way for the region. Jean-Michel’s son Mathieu is now at the helm and hasn’t deviated from his father’s philosophies.
