Le Vigne di Zamo Bianco 2018
When we first tasted this wine, it came as a nice break from thinking so hard about what we’re tasting. This wine isn’t challenging, and yet it’s still noticeably great quality. It’s not overtly fruity, it’s well balanced, dry and lively. It’s best pairings are Aglio e olio, a spot in the shade, a copy of North & South.
Zamo Bianco is a blend of varieties typically grown in this pocket of north eastern Italy. Ribolla Gialla, Tocai Friulano, Pinot Grigio, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc to name a few. The Zamo family produce great range of wines from their 3 vineyards (that are in conversion to organics) in Friuli-Venezia-Giulia. The region is at one of those junctions in Europe where 3 countries meet; Italy, Austria and Slovenia. It’s culture and wines are a fascinating mix of all 3.
