Romain Paire La Colline en Flamme Côte Roannaise 2019

We get out of bed for obscure finds like this. Made from Gamay Saint Romain, a relative of Gamay itself, this light red has vibrant fruit aromatics and a fresh and seriously persistent palate. La Colline en Flamme translates to the ‘the hills are on fire’, and we see Romain’s fiery passion in his biodynamic wines from granite soils. Served slightly chilled.

The Côte Roannaise is a tiny region in the south western corner of the Loire Valley in France. Romain Paire has taken over his family estate there, Domaine des Pothiers, and has gained a serious following of somms and wine geeks from around the world.
