Guillemot-Michel Viré Clessé Quintaine 2020

The historic cuvée of this estate (produced since 1985), it’s a blend of 6 out of the 6.5 hectares of the estate. Eschewing the Burgundian convention of ageing in oak, Quintaine is vinified in concrete vats. As a result the ripe, bright fruited nature of Macon Chardonnay shines through. Being in the warmer south of Burgundy, the flavour spectrum in the Macon tends toward ripe, yellow stone and tropical fruits, with concentration and richness as this beautifully displays.

Having studied viticulture and oenology, Pierette and Marc Guillemot-Michel returned to Pierette’s 6.5 hectare family estate in the hamlet of Quintaine in 1982, bottling their first wine in 1985. They were quick to start to convert the estate to certified organic and then biodynamic farming. Their wines have gained a serious following, and there are few better Macon producers.
