G.D. Vajra Ravera Barolo 2017

This is a breathtaking expression of what is recognised as one of Barolo’s great sites. With fresh and dried red fruits, florals, citrus rind, spice there’s plenty of dimension here. From a warm vintage, this has pretty broad shoulders and serious persistence. Its intriguing aromatics mean you won’t regret opening it tomorrow, but you’ll certainly be rewarded if you can hold onto it for a decade (or two). The Ravera vineyard’s soil is made up of clay and sand, and is especially rich in iron. With favourable south west facing exposure, wines ripen well but retain freshness and precision.

“I am intrigued by Ravera’s indomitable personality. It is crisp like the sound of a Telecaster, straight and electric.” - Giuseppe Vajra

Aldo and Milena Vajra founded their estate in the early 1970’s, naming it G.D. after Aldo’s father, Giuseppe Domenico. Based in the western part of Barolo, where soils are lighter, they’re renowned for their fragrant, balanced and elegant styles of Barolo. Now in the hands of the kids, Giuseppe, Isidoro and Francesca, their commitment to excellence is outstanding, as are the wines. They achieved full organic certification in 2019.
