Three Fates Albariño 2021
We think Albariño has a big future in our little maritime country. Holly from Three Fates best describes their excellent take on it -
‘Picking at the point of optimal ripeness and flavour really characterises this wine; the acid is powerful and drives the whole thing forward. Basket pressing lends texture and weight to the mid-palate and allows the wine to open up in the glass and be enjoyed at both fridge and room temperature. Fermented in an old 500l puncheon using wild yeasts; the wine was not fined or filtered. The result is a peachy and vibrant wine that pairs exceptionally well with salty flavours.’
The three fates are Holly Girven Russell, Hester Nesbitt and Casey Motley. In another case of old mate COVID causing a change of tack, these three decided to combine their respective wine growing experience, taking on the lease of a Maraekākaho, Hawkes Bay vineyard in 2020. It’s a trio of things we love here at BTB - talented people going out on their own, alternative grape varieties, and wines that are thoughtful, modern expressions of great New Zealand wine regions.
