Pieropan Ruberpan Valpolicella Superiore 2018
It made sense that the Veneto’s best white wine maker had a go at making the region’s most notable reds. The Pieropan family purchased Valpolicella vineyards in 1999. Like their historic Soave estate, the focus is on quality and the production of vibrant, balanced, organic wines. Ruberpan is generous, with a core of bright fruit and satisfying grip. It’s made from Valpolicella’s usual red varieties, predominantly Corvina and Rondinella. Being labelled Superiore, it’s aged for at least one year before release.
Having produced wine in Soave Classico, to the east of Verona, Pieropan has been very much a family affair since the 1890s. And they’ve always led the region, never resting on their laurels. They were the first to label a wine Soave in the 1930s, the first to bottle a single vineyard Soave, and have worked hard to gain organic certification for their whole production.
