Gravel Down Field Blend 2020
This is a blend of Flora (an obscure AF variety), Gruner Veltliner, Verdello and Petit Manseng from a small, certified organic vineyard in Henderson. It might sound like a work of whimsical fiction, but it’s the real deal. It’s a crunchy, bright and delicious skin contact white with flavours of stone fruit, aniseed and orange.
These are the first releases from Laurence and his partner Rebecca Thorne. The couple moved back to New Zealand and set up a tiny winery in a Kauri shed overlooking the Waima Ranges in Northland. They source fruit from West Auckland and Hawkes Bay and make wines with minimal intervention. Certainly on our list of one to watch!
