Amaro simply translated means "bitter" in Italian. Amaro Montenegro is one of the original Amaro's produced in Italy and has been distilled in Bologna since 1885. The name is intended to pay homage to the second queen of Italy, Princess Helen of Montenegro and is the most beloved Amaro in Italy. 

Traditionally enjoyed as a digestif or an after dinner drink, it's most commonly served neat or on the rocks with a slice of orange however it's now used in many cocktails around the world. 

While the recipe remains a secret to this day, it is distilled with 40 different herbs and has underlying spices of cinnamon, cardamom and clove.
